Adelante Technologies and Mentor Graphics Partnership Provides Platform-Based SoC Design and Verification for DSP

WILSONVILLE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2001--Mentor Graphics Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT) and Adelante Technologies have formed a partnership that will enable Mentor Graphics to broaden the scope of its Platform Express(TM) System-on-Chip (SoC) design kit to include SoC embedded digital signal processing (DSP).

The collaboration will enable developers in the high-volume consumer electronics industry -- particularly in the areas of multimedia, and next generation wireless -- to rapidly create, configure and verify platform-based system-on-chip designs.

Systems integration can cause a major bottleneck in today's SoC designs. The SoC-DSP Platform Express addresses this issue by offering an open development platform that enables multi-core SoC design and verification of hardware and software. This is a major step forward in increasing the speed of development for SoC-based designs. Adelante Technologies and Mentor Graphics aim to make the first product available during the first half of 2002.

``This is a win-win partnership for Mentor Graphics and Adelante Technologies,'' said Serge Leef, general manager of the SoC Verification Division at Mentor. ``It enables us to offer our design methodology to a wider market, while helping Adelante Technologies fulfill its objective of offering its DSP technologies on multiple platforms. The partnership could mark the beginning of even greater cooperation between the two companies which could lead to a SoC-DSP software development platform that enables third party software developers to remotely debug their software on the virtual SoC hardware.''

Launched in August 2001, Platform Express is the semiconductor design industry's first environment for rapidly creating, configuring and verifying platform-based SoC designs. The agreement with Adelante Technologies follows similar partnerships with Oki and Altera Corp, which enable Mentor Graphics to provide Platform Express design kits for popular SoC platforms.

``The collaboration with Mentor Graphics is proof of Adelante Technologies' commitment to helping our customers develop open-system architectures on which the next generation of wireless and personal multimedia products can be built,'' said Karsten Popp, who has recently moved from Mentor Graphics to become chief executive officer and chairman at Adelante Technologies. ``It will enable us to deliver best-in-class embedded DSP solutions to a far wider portfolio of customers, providing them with the benefits of reduced time to market and reduced project costs.

``The partnership also enables me to utilize my nine years of experience at Mentor Graphics -- a leader in System Verification platforms that enable the rapid and reliable integration of components from multiple sources -- to help Adelante Technologies realize its objective of leading the new paradigm for open SoC-DSP.''

Platform Express enables design teams to build and configure a platform core and its corresponding peripherals and software in a virtual prototype. Platform Express simultaneously generates a custom verification environment to verify interfaces in the portion of the design surrounding the embedded processor and its attached peripherals. By automating design creation and verification steps the solution shaves months off product development cycles and enables designers to focus on product differentiators.

Using Platform Express, designers can browse through a library of available processors, memories and peripherals and drag-and-drop selected items into a graphical editor. Platform Express provides a graphical user interface that enables users to create systems as block diagrams. It creates automatically the necessary connections between components, depending on a selection of standard buses, including AMBA and VCI. In addition, it includes a memory map display that automatically displays utilization of address space.
